Malus baccata

Found in the wild from Lake Baikal in the north to the Himalayas in the south and Northern China in the east, this is one of the larger Crabs, reaching up to 12m (40ft) in maturity. A vigorous grower, it comes into its own in autumn, when the red or yellow, egg-shaped fruits hang on in the branches, long after leaf-fall, lending late season interest to the garden.
