Delivery

Andrew looking at tree

As we grow the majority of our stock in the open-ground (ie in the soil and not in containers), we start despatching orders to our customers once the plants have become dormant for the winter and continue until just before bud-break in the spring. In a ‘normal’ year, this would ordinarily be from around the first week in November until, at the latest, late April or even early May (the later dates being reserved for the late-leafers such as Beech, Oak, Ash etc. and many of the conifers). If an order for container-grown plants is suitably urgent or large enough, these may be sent at any time of year using the pallet delivery network or our own transport. It is not possible to pack and send container plants during the growing season using our normal, fabled packaging as the plants would suffer in transit from the foliage being crushed and broken.

Whilst our growing season may be horribly short (on account of our altitude and northerly latitude), the corollary is that our sales season is uncommonly long, enabling us to be despatching plants long after the time when more southerly or lowland nurseries have closed their doors for the summer.

All sundries, such as stakes, tree-ties, rabbit guards, gloves and midge-proof clothing are available year-round.

Packing and Carriage Terms

We think that we are probably quite safe in saying that there is probably no-one that packs their plants better than we do. It's not an idle claim and it's not a boast, simply a statement of fact. So there is an essential labour cost in the charges, the fruits of which you will enjoy when opening your parcel of trees........

VAT

Please note that VAT Is additional to all prices and charges and will be added at the rate prevailing at the time of Invoice, which is usually the day of supply.

Forest Trees

For any Forest Tree consignment sent on its own, or with Hedging Plants, please add 10% towards Packing & Carriage costs (minimum charge £24.00 + VAT; maximum charge £60.00 + VAT).

Specimen Trees

For any consignment including Specimen Trees, please add 10% towards Packing & Carriage costs (minimum charge £30.00 + VAT; maximum charge £80.00 + VAT).

Could we point out that, very occasionally, certain larger specimen trees are beyond the capacities of both our own transport and that of our regular carriers. This may be due to either the sheer weight or size of the specimen(s) concerned. Under such circumstances we will advise a customer of this and can either arrange special transport at extra cost on their behalf or assist in the loading of their own vehicle here at Weasdale.

Hedging Plants

For any Hedging Plant consignment sent on its own, or with Forest Trees, please add 10% towards Packing & Carriage costs (minimum charge £24.00 + VAT; maximum charge £60.00 +VAT).

Sundries

For any Sundries consignment sent on its own, please add 10% towards Packing & Carriage costs (minimum charge £16.00 + VAT; maximum charge £60.00 + VAT).

Exceptions: Some items such as Books, Midge-Clothing and Gloves can be ordered and sent on their own and we indicate the costs of P&C separately with the items’ descriptions. On our part, we just want to make sure that we adequately cover the cost of packing and postage and so you may find that, on occasions, we actually charge you less than you were expecting to pay.

P&C Terms for Scottish Highlands & Island-Dwellers and EU Customers

The foregoing Carriage terms are applicable to consignments sent to most of the U.K. mainland, but for more distant destinations (e.g. I.o.M. and Channel Islands)) we usually have to charge customers the shipping and delivery costs beyond the mainland, and these surcharges will be advised either at the time of sending your Acknowledgement of Order or immediately prior to despatch once the consignment's weight and dimensions are known. The Scottish Highlands are treated differently by different carriers and so a surcharge may be payable for some deliveries into these parts. Our advice is to try and choose smaller trees, which will then give us a wider choice of carriers, will keep the carriage cost down and has the added benefit of increasing your new plants' chances of survival in a tough environment!

April 2021: Following Brexit and the resulting plant movement controls now in force, we regret that we are no longer able to supply customers in the EU and Northern Ireland.
